Long work day today.
I started off typing that with caps lock on by accident so it started out LONG WORK DAY which was funny and also how Monday feels. This term my longest day is on Monday and that wasn’t the best idea I ever had but it is good to get it over with, leaves Tuesday for decompressing. This morning I was goofing with my kids before work and I can’t remember what exactly we did. Maybe running around for high fives? I’m not sure. Recently-ish I was trying to give the five year old a high five to congratulate her for doing something well and I was chasing her. We have a sort of loop in our house in that four rooms join at a column with doorways all around it. It’s good for running around with the kids. So I chased the youngest around the loop or really she ran close behind me while I yelled for her to slow down because she was way up in front of me. She cracked up laughing, which is a nice feeling, and the 10 year old joined in too, which was also lovely. Ten is at an age where she doesn’t always want to start playing young kid games but once we start she has a lot of fun. It’s neat to see her growing and navigating this.
When I left the house for work I forgot my laptop. Not ideal on a teaching day but I was able to recreate my course prep plan from memory and classes went well enough. Tomorrow I should check my prep notes, make sure I didn’t accidentally cover part of the lesson plan for Wednesday.
I was planning to sit outside at picnic table but it was sunny and I thought the glare would be a problem, I went to get the laptop out of my bag to see if I was right about that. In my memory the laptop was in my bag and I get it out and the light is wrong. This isn’t all of the memory or my only memory, but I feel like I do have a small memory of doing this because at the time I expected to do this. It’s like I played out my expectation in my head and that made it real enough to be memorable. Wild. But it wasn’t there. I called home and my oldest found the laptop. I prepped with pen and paper from memory and that was good enough. That’s how I always used to teach, only switched to laptop to have what felt like a more permanent record of the lesson plans.
After work I got an impossible whopper on the way home. This BK often makes people pull around front and they bring the food out to the car, I guess the drive through is faster than the cooking? One night there were at least six cars all parked like that. Another night was the same and having noticed it in advance I skipped it. I got it tonight. A delicious sodium bomb. Brings on an earlier death, I assume, which is why it tastes so good.
